How to Use Shoulder Machine (Kinetec Centura)

Recovering from shoulder surgery or injury can be challenging — but the right equipment can make your journey smoother and more comfortable.
The Kinetec Centura Continuous Passive Motion (CPM) machine is designed to help restore movement and flexibility in your shoulder joint by gently moving your arm through a controlled range of motion.
At CityDME, our goal is to make your rehabilitation experience simple, safe, and stress-free.
This quick guide walks you through how to set up and operate your shoulder CPM device correctly.
Before You Begin
-
Use your Kinetec Centura exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider or physical therapist.
-
Always make sure you’re in a comfortable seated or reclined position before starting.
-
Check that all cables are connected securely and the power cord is plugged into a grounded outlet.
-
Keep the remote control within easy reach — you’ll use it to adjust and start your session.
(If you ever have technical questions about your device, contact CityDME directly — not your doctor — for setup or troubleshooting assistance.)

Step 1 — Adjust the Range of Motion
-
Press the Limit Button (▲) on your remote.
-
The degree numbers on the display will flash, meaning the machine is now in adjustment mode.
-
-
Use the arrows to set your desired movement range as directed by your clinician.
-
Press the Limit Button again to save your setting.
CityDME Tip: Start with the degree range your provider recommends. Comfort always comes first — increase only as advised.
Step 2 — Start Your Exercise Session
-
Once the range is set, press the Start Button.
-
The machine will gently move your shoulder through the programmed motion.
-
Relax and let the device do the work — this is passive movement, not active lifting.
You should feel a mild stretch, not pain.
If discomfort increases, stop the session and contact your provider before continuing.
Step 3 — Progress Safely Over Time
Your recovery will gradually improve with consistent use.
Following your doctor or therapist’s plan, you can increase the range of motion by about 5 degrees every day.
To adjust:
-
Repeat Step 1, change the degree setting, and save.
Slow, steady progress builds flexibility without strain.
